As inCommon continues expanding the development of healthy, transformational relationships across socio-economic boundaries, staffer Brittany Hanson is focusing her efforts in the Park Avenue area, one of Omaha’s historic neighborhoods.

A wealth of social capital is present within the neighborhood and this is where we begin: developing relationships, learning from neighbors, and visioning how to build an even stronger and healthier neighborhood together. Neighbors and faith leaders are already at work and we are honored to join them.

While the patient work of building relationships is difficult to quantify, there has been much going on in the neighborhood; we are excited about many new and developing partnerships. inCommon currently facilitates and coordinates Neighbors United, a collaboration of over 20 area faith leaders, as we examine how the faith community can better work together to continue cultivating transformative community within the neighborhood.

inCommon’s collaboration with Park Avenue neighbors serves as a model for future contextualized and integrated ministry replication as we affront poverty throughout Omaha and beyond. In the words of Dr. M.L. King, “[we are] cognizant of the interrelatedness of all communities.” Our vision for holistic community development and transformation in Park Avenue is one we have for all urban communities—wholeness and restoration of individuals and communities made possible because of the coming and arrival of the Kingdom.
